Before college I thought of myself as a good reader. I would find a series that I liked and I would speed read through the entire thing, it didn't matter if it was two books or twenty. However, after four years of college trying to complete six years of course work in that four year time and two and a half years of grad school teaching full time... I just never picked the habit back up.
When some women in my neighborhood wanted to start up a book club for 2022 I knew I needed to take the leap and join. What's better to make you do something than shame from strange moms? Nothing. So in 2022 I started reading again. I didn't read a lot, I didn't even finish all of the books we were supposed to read from book club. However, I did go from reading zero "for fun" books in 2021 to reading 13 in 2022. My 2023 reading goal was to read at least the same amount of books in the new year, so I set my Goodreads goal to just that: 13 books. While I, yet again, didn't read all of the books for book club I did exceed my reading goal and completed 24 books in 2023. With my joy of reading re-sparked I wanted to share some of my favorites from the past year.
